Dr. Carolyn Monahan Dr. Carolyn Owen Monahan grew up in Arizona. She graduated from ASU in psychology and educational psychology and attended UCLA Medical School. During her pediatric training Dr. Monahan completed an infectious disease fellowship. Dr. Monahan practices traditional pediatrics according to the Academy of Pediatric Guidelines in conjunction with UCSD recommendations. This gives wonderful treatment of disease. However, she is also very interested in practices that give optimum health far beyond mere absence of disease. Healthy diet, exercise, sleep, interfamily interactions and social relationships contribute to a full and healthy life. She has three grown children with whom she loves interacting. Lauren teaches honors high school English and is a writer of young adult fiction. They love to travel and Lauren tries to keep her mother's wardrobe in the current decade's style. Daniel is a sculptor and multimedia producer. Dr. Monahan loved having input on his toy line of non-toxic teethers (see dano2.com) and his app to teach directional alphabet writing (little sky writers) and child friendly stylus. John is currently attending USC Medical School and she enjoys sharing wisdom from many years of practice and getting the newest ways to look at medical challenges. Her daughter-in-law, Chelsea, Daniel's wife, was a great help with electronic equipment on a trip to Jordan to teach neonatal resuscitation to medical personnel. Dr. Monahan has also gone to Fiji, Kenya, and Guatemala to teach medicine on humanitarian trips to improve world health. Currently she is on the Board of Collegium Aesculapium with interest in teaching, rights of conscience, telemedicine, and emergency response. Dr. Monahan is just "grandma" to Daniel's two daughters. She enjoys being the grandma who gets to take them to Moonlight Beach. See the book, "Last Child in the Wild" for her thoughts on nature and health. She enjoys working with two great women, Emi, and Alissa, at the San Marcos office of Children's Medical Group, a longstanding and well thought of practice across from San Marcos High School. |
